Water Security

Conceived by STATEGRID/CPFL Renováveis, in partnership with CERNE, this initiative aims to identify a location globally to implement a water desalination project as a vector for social development. The municipality of João Câmara/RN was selected for installation, targeting the communities of Amarelão, Serrote São Bento, and Santa Terezinha. Inaugurated in 2022, the system serves three thousand people through pipelines constructed by the project, improving the quality of life for the region’s communities.

CERNE supported the project throughout all phases of its development and implementation, showcasing the potential social return of the wind energy sector to the communities in their operational areas.

Feasibility of Energy Generation Projects in Settlements

In partnership with INCRA/RN, CERNE developed a pioneering study to analyze the feasibility of using settlement areas for wind, solar, and natural resource energy generation, as a means of regional growth and improving the quality of life for the settlers. The objective is to provide greater security for agricultural activities, while enabling the possibility of obtaining income from sustainable exploration projects, ensuring a harmonious coexistence between businesses and settlements.

Restructuring of the Port of Natal – Porto Potengi Project

This infrastructure initiative focuses on the restructuring of the port of Natal/Rio Grande do Norte, located on the right bank of the Potengi River. The project addresses the need to modernize the port’s infrastructure to meet current demands for the flow and reception of goods in RN, including upgrades to the state’s road and rail logistics, as well as interconnection with Natal’s new airport and central region.

Divided into two phases, the first phase was completed with the conclusion of the EVTEA (Technical, Economic, and Environmental Feasibility Study), commissioned by the CNT and carried out by a consortium of specialized companies. The study indicated viability and included an environmental offset with the establishment of an ecological park, ensuring the preservation of the area surrounding the port. The second phase is under review to assess the feasibility of road and rail infrastructure, with an estimated execution period of six months.

Mato Grande Security Project

This project, initiated by CERNE with the participation of energy companies in Rio Grande do Norte and the State’s Security Department, focuses on the Mato Grande region, which has the highest density of wind turbines in Brazil, covering more than 12 municipalities and benefiting from significant investments by the wind energy sector over the past 10 years.

The initiative aims to enhance the state’s security infrastructure in the region as a form of social return to these municipalities, improving access to monitoring services, SAMU (emergency medical service), and the fire department. Additionally, some of these municipalities are important tourist destinations in RN.

The project can also represent a return from the energy sector to the communities that host wind energy projects, reflecting the companies’ commitment to social responsibility in their operational areas.
